Isaiah 29
  1. What will happen to Jerusalem?
    It will be besieged
  2. Why were the people of Israel only near to God?
They only spoke good things but had no actions.
  3. Why could Israel not hide their deeds from God?
He is all-knowing and all-seeing. He is the Potter, we are the clay.
  4. Who will be cut off completely one day?
    The ruthless evildoers.
  5. Why would Jacob not be ashamed of his children?
Prophecy of Christ coming to redeem Israel.
Isaiah 30
  1. Why was Israel not to trust in Egypt?
Trust should be put in the Lord. Egypt did not care about them.
  2. What type of people had Israel become?
Rebellious people not willing to listen to instruction
  3. Who would God be gracious to?
    The repentant heart.
  4. How will God teach His people in the future?
God promises that although He gives the "bread of adversity," He will no longer hide Himself. Your "teachers" will be visible, and you will hear a voice behind you saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
  5. What is the great light to come?
The Bible describes a time of restoration where the light of the moon will be as bright as the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of His people.
  6. What king would face death at Topeth?
The text refers to the King of Assyria. It describes Topheth (a place of burning or fire) as being prepared long ago, made wide and deep with an abundance of fire and wood, destined for the king as a site of divine judgment.
Isaiah 31
  1. What would be the result of those who did not trust in God?
The result is total collapse for both the helper and the helped. The Bible states that when the Lord stretches out His hand, the helper (Egypt) will stumble, the one who is helped (Judah) will fall, and they will all perish together.
  2. What would the Lord be like for those who trust in Him?
Like a lion protecting it's prey or a bird protecting it's nest.
  3. How did the Assyrians fail not by sword?
The text says Assyria will fall by a sword that is "not of man" and "not of mortals." This indicates a divine intervention—specifically, the Angel of the Lord—rather than a defeat by a human army on the battlefield.
Isaiah 32
  1. What will be the way of the people when God rules their lives?
The people will experience a restoration of their senses and clarity. The eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The "rash" (impulsive) heart will gain understanding, and those who stammer will speak plainly and clearly.
  2. How will the people perceive the foolish and the evil person?
There will be a moral clarity in society: "No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected." People will see others for who they truly are rather than being deceived by titles or wealth.
  3. When will the people stop mourning and become a fruitful forest?
This transformation happens "till the Spirit is poured on us from on high." When that divine influence comes, the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest.
  4. Even during troubled times, how can God's people dwell?
Despite the "hail" and the forest being "leveled" mentioned in the following verses, God's people will dwell in "peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, and in undisturbed places of rest."
Isaiah 33
  1. Who is the plunderer?
The plunderer is the "Destroyer" (often identified historically as Assyria) who has not yet been destroyed. The verse warns that when they have finished plundering, they themselves will be plundered.
  2. Who are the people who will be afraid in Zion?
The "sinners in Zion" and the "godless" (or hypocrites) are the ones seized with trembling. They realize they cannot survive in the presence of God’s "consuming fire."
  3. Who in Zion will not be afraid of the devouring fire?
The person who "walks righteously and speaks what is right." Specifically, it is the person who: Rejects gain from extortion. Keeps their hands from accepting bribes. Stops their ears against plots of murder. Shuts their eyes against contemplating evil.
  4. What will the righteous ones observe? What will they remember? What will they not see?
What they observe: Their eyes will see "the King in his beauty" and view a land that stretches afar (v. 17). What they remember: They will "ponder (meditate on) the former terror," remembering the officials and tax collectors of the enemy who are now gone (v. 18). What they will not see: They will no longer see "those arrogant people" who speak an obscure, incomprehensible foreign tongue (v. 19).

And the people said...

AMEN!
